TEETH CLEANING in Los Angeles

Teeth cleanings at Century City Dentistry in Los Angeles are performed by Dr. Zarrin Golshani. Dr. Zarrin's goal is to keep you healthy and happy! Teeth cleanings allow us to take a proactive approach to your dental health, addressing issues while they are small and potentially avoiding issues altogether. Despite your best efforts, deposits of mineralized plaque, known as tartar, adhere to areas of the teeth. These deposits create a nice home for millions of harmful bacteria. Left unchecked, they flood toxins into the gums resulting in devastating chronic problems, even resulting in the loss of teeth.

When tartar is removed at your professional cleaning appointment, it does not have the opportunity to produce irreversible damage. We use professional instruments and polishing paste during your cleaning in order to remove plaque and calculus from your teeth leaving your teeth ultra-smooth and shiny. Since discoloration settles into the enamel of your teeth over time, getting your regular cleanings also helps to slow down yellowing of your teeth over time and minimizes staining while maintaining a glassy surface for better cleaning.

PERIODONTAL THERAPY

At Century City Dentistry in Los Angeles, CA, we will create a customized treatment regimen for your individual needs.

DIAGNOSIS

The small collar of gum around each tooth usually sits 2-3 millimeters deep, a small crevice easily cleaned by floss. Dr. Zarrin Golshani can measure and chart multiple areas using a small measuring device. Inflammation or gum disease is present in areas that bleed or measure at or above 4mm. Gum disease has many stages. Periodontal disease is caused by the bacteria in the plaque and tartar that is left in your mouth causing inflammation, bone loss, and in advanced stages, tooth loss.

TREATMENT

In milder forms with little or no bone loss, one or two visits and optimal daily home hygiene may bring the condition under control. When you leave our office with a strategy for daily home care and an established schedule for in office maintenance, little additional treatment may be needed.

Dr. Zarrin Golshani may suggest a deep cleaning/scaling and root planing, antibacterial irrigation, or other specific strategies to help you with your ongoing efforts. Remember, gum disease can be controlled but not cured. Dedicated daily efforts must be consistent to control the disease. At advanced stages of periodontal disease, Dr. Zarrin Golshani may refer you to a specialist for consultation and further treatment.

MOUTH-BODY CONNECTION

The complex cycle of inflammation and infection extends beyond the gums and mouth. In fact, research continues to uncover the many ways that our oral health affects the overall health of our bodies including heart health, and can influence medical conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, and even some types of cancer. For example, mouth bacteria enter the bloodstream through inflamed and bleeding gums. Like a river, blood flow carries the bacteria to the small vessels of the heart and brain. Here they can damage the intricate vessel lining, leading to blockage of the vessel.
